Here is how you display the icon in windows. If you are like me who listens to a lot of music and watches movies on the PC, then volume control in windows is a a frequently used utility to adjust the the sound volume. By default, you may find the volume control icon on the taskbar in windows xp and in the notification area on the lower-right corner of the screen, in windows 7 and windows vista.
But what if you do not find the volume control icon in taskbar of windows xp or in the notification area of windows 7 or vista? If you do not find the volume control icon on the taskbar, here is how you add it to the taskbar to adjust the volume for your audio devices using the shortcut icon. Now, whenever you want to adjust the volume in windows XP, click the volume control icon and move the slider. If you have a PC running Windows 7 or vista and if Volume Control icon do not appear in the notification area in the lower-right corner of the screen, then do the following.
When you install windows 7 on your PC, the check boxes for the volume control, Network, and Power System icons are selected, by default, on the Notification Area tab of the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialog box.
You may sometimes notice that they are not selected. The network, volume, and power features function correctly even though their associated icons do not appear in the notification area.
Are you wondering why does this happen? When you first start a computer new computer , the operating system typically runs start up service initializations that may take from one to six hours to finish, depending on which applications are preloaded on the computer.
The above issue usually occurs if the PC is shut down or restarted before windows 7 or vista has finished initializing all the background services, before it is restarted.
Your sound card may also be disabled, malfunctioning, or unavailable. First, verify no conflicts or other devices are present in the Device Manager. Second, verify that the computer has a sound card and that it is enabled. If this is an onboard sound card, you can verify that it is enabled in the CMOS setup. If you have no adapters or cannot click the down arrow to select the correct adapter, close out of this window. In the Control Panel, double-click the System icon, click the Device Manager tab within Device Manager, and ensure there are no yellow!
If you have either of these on any of your sound devices, remove everything under Sound, video and game controllers and reboot the computer. If, after rebooting the computer, you still have the same conflicts, double-click the conflicting device and refer to our Device Manager error codes section for additional information.
Verify the speakers are plugged into the computer, and connected to the proper port on the computer. Verify the speaker settings and speakers are not at fault by running through computer speaker troubleshooting. If the above recommendations don't help, remove all devices under Sound, video, and game controllers in the Device Manager and reboot the computer. To immediately reinstall the deleted driver, select Action on the menu bar and select Scan for hardware changes.
That would refresh the Device Manager and reinstall the audio driver. If the volume icon is still missing on your computer after installing a new version of your audio driver, you should roll back to the previous version. Navigate to the Driver tab and click the Roll Back Driver button.
The Group Policy Editor is an advanced environment where you can configure and customize your Windows desktop experience. By default, every Windows PC has a policy setting in the Group Policy Editor that lets users remove the volume icon from the system control area. Your computer will not display the volume or sound icon if this policy setting is active. Follow the steps below to check the status of the volume icon setting and disable it.
Scroll through the policy settings on the page and locate Remove the volume control icon. Double-click on it to check its status. If the policy setting is enabled, set it to either Not Configured or Disabled.
Select OK to save the change and confirm if that restores the missing volume icon.
