Cpu usage spike windows 7

The possible cause may be that the Firefox JavaScript interpreter has gotten bogged down with a bad section of code or processing many running scripts. A site can consume all available free memory because of this and Windows will start swapping Firefox to storage causing such unresponsiveness.

I can second the observations here by anon. After doing extensive Searches there, cycling through the Search routine, Firefox slows to winter molasses. Resource Monitor show that FF is seriously thrashing. The solutions are: Close FF; or exit the Search site. Either solution takes a little time as the Page file has to climb out of the hole. Can you post screenshots of what extensions are installed?

When Firefox begins to become unresponsive, could you post a Windows Task Manager screenshot of the working set memory for each of the Firefox processes? I attached example screenshots for each. Firefox used to perform sluggishly for me after watching YouTube videos for a while. I resolved this by setting browser. I recall that the default value is or 15 seconds. With the default value and while on some sites such as YouTube, the working set memory consumed by some of the running Firefox processes will slowly and steadily grow even if you pause the video you were watching.

Firefox will become less responsive as more memory is consumed. I recall that Firefox started to become less responsive when any of its processes had consumed more than a gigabyte of RAM, and became very unresponsive after around two gigabytes of RAM was consumed by a Firefox process.

Setting the sessionstore interval to milliseconds 20 minutes resolved the memory consumption issue. The downside to setting the browser. I never restore previous sessions, so this is not an issue for me.

If this is an older computer with a limited amount of RAM, such as 4 gigs, you might want to consider an alternate browser. When I looked at the download file for the newer Firefox it was 2 times the size of my old 78 ESR and I knew it would be an issue. However, there are some good people here and if you decide to keep Firefox I am sure they can give you some decent suggestions.

Actually, I am unable to provide a screenshot because I reseted my computer using Windows 10 tool for restoring the system with a fresh install and deleting all files , and it solved the issue.

Definitely related to explorer. Also not normal. I would start by running a system file check and a Malwarebytes scan. Hello, my issue is probably related to this one not solved because no trace was provided : CPU usage spikes every 60 seconds after windows 10 upgrade I recently updated my Windows 7 to Windows 10 on a Dell Inspiron N I've also scanned for spyware, viruses, and other malware and have found nothing.

All my applications are up to date and all Windows updates are current. This problem just started last week, but the strangest thing is that it hardly ever happens when I play fullscreen games like Halo 1, Doom 3, or Frets on Fire.

All of these games are bit including my emulators that I have and they all run fine. I've been considering reverting back to my original OEM factory default with Windows 7 Home Premium bit by using the recovery partition. I've done this before, but when I did a clean install of Windows 7 bit using a disc, I was no longer able to boot into my recovery partition.

I didn't delete the recovery partitions provided by Toshiba when I did a clean install. The partitions are still marked as active in the partition manager under computer management.

To boot into the recovery partition, I had to press F8 at startup, choose startup and recovery, and I was able to choose the option to restore back to factory defaults. I was just wondering how I would be able to boot into this recovery partition since the windows boot loader can no longer see it. Is there any sort of boot disc out there with its own bootloader on it that doesn't need to be installed to the hard disk to boot any partition? Something that works like GRUB but doesn't need to be installed to the hard disk.
