Recommended x68000 games
Beyond the standard controllers, there were some more extravagant ones. From the Cyber Stick which was pitched at flight simulator fans to the XE-1 which I would have no idea how to hold. I have shown both below:. This has been true for many games that I have discovered particularly for titles made by Capcom and Konami, but like all systems, there are some failures too.
Someone might argue just use Mame — why bother. I often prefer to play these x ports myself. Rygar — Argos No Senshi. Pressing F1 gives you access to the Dip Switch controls where you can set the difficulty, number of lives etc. This game includes all 27 levels present in the arcade version and is as difficult as the original. Rygar is to this day, one of my all time favorite games.
Gradius II is in my opinion, a decent improvement over the first game in the Gradius series. The x version and the MSX version of the game is essentially an alternate port of the Arcade version, which I also believe was developed to run at a lower screen resolution. Compared to the original Arcade version, it has totally different music as well, and I think I prefer the port music over the original myself.
Before you begin the game, you can choose from four different weapon types for your ship — each with own different advantages and disadvantages. The graphics in Gradius II are quite spectacular for a game made around — particularly on the insanely difficult third stage with the field of crystals.
A Konami classic. Only the music and slightly less on-screen enemies at one time one could argue this version is more approachable because of this are different to the original. You can play in two player co-op mode, choosing from three characters — Mike Haggar, Cody and Guy. The game features different bosses at the end of each of the six main rounds there are two bonus rounds as well.
Flying Shark — Hishouzame. Similar to the x series, you control a biplane flying over various battlefields filled with tanks, buildings, battleships and plans. Many enemies take multiple hits to destroy and you will need to clear areas to reach checkpoints through out the games five but quite long stages.
If you do complete the five stages, you continue on from stage two but at a harder level of gameplay. I enjoy this shmup because I find it quite challenging to play. The main difference between the original and this game is that you can now fire upwards and downwards while jumping. The aim of this game is to rescue the soul of his lover Princess Prin Prin whose soul was stolen by Lucifer Loki. Set in the year , you play as Simon Belmont who has to defeat Count Dracula who has been terrorizing the people of Transylvania again after rising again after a century of rest.
The whip can be upgraded with extras and is also used to help find other items hidden inside the castle during the games 24 stages. The game which is coded almost entirely in C features sprites on screen at once using a custom sprite multiplexing routine. The music features an excellent FM synth soundtrack and the game contains some very good sampled sound effects. However I hear this version was in the Japanese only Fantasy Zone collection for the PS2, so you get more that way.
Same great Gradius action, now with a slightly altered soundtrack and none of the shitty slowdown seen in the PC-Engine version. Bundled with the original X to display with classics what awesome conversions the system was capable of. If these don't get you interested you're fucking deaf. Prowl through levels hunting key targets culminating with a showdown against really challenging bosses. This was ported to the Mega Drive but apparently it wasn't up to the task as there is HUGE amounts of slowdown and drowned out sound what the fuck.
An excellent revamp of Gradius 2 that patches its atrocious scrolling to be silky smooth and appends a few new levels. The graphics are nothing short of gorgeous, making this easily the best looking game on the X This game is strangely harder than its MSX version, probably due to less slowdown, with very unforgiving enemies hellbent on shunting you into the landscape and enemy fire. Sadly this has never been released to American audiences, which seems to be a trend for old school Konami Gradius Gaiden , Gradius II - why, Konami, why?
More homebrew that I honestly have no idea how to play. Holding shot down focuses your spread shot into a stream, and rapid shot transition seems to give you a momentary burst of speed? Pressing the bomb button gives you a temporary bullet cancel to allow some time to cycle between options: Bomber screen damage , Back-Burner obliterates enemies behind and Laser high powered frontal beam.
To get past the green screen on start-up go into Mouse Mode F12 and click the 4th button 10 MHz on the left. A cute, nonsensical parody of Gradius. It's the same great Parodius from the arcades, screw your home console ports this thing's damn perfect in every way!
Of course there's nothing wrong with the consoles ones since they have exclusive levels and get the job done! A quality doujin game that can best be described as a "horizontal Cho Ren Sha ". This can also be fired by moving your ship back and forth quickly. The game is standard side-scrolling action with a whopping 27 levels , with the end of each level being awkwardly punctuated by Cho Aniki-style musclemen in tight swimsuits grading your performance.
Treasures, yo-yo upgrades and 1-Ups are scattered throughout each stage for you to find. An artificial intelligence has taken over humanity's space colonies, a scientist creates a spaceship to fight it.
A very good and seriously challenging shmup. You might know it from the Sega ports, which are perfectly acceptable, but the graphics and music really suffered with their lesser hardware. One of best action titles on the arcade. You are Hiryu, a prodigious Strider tasked to crush a communist regime. I joined because I recently purchased an X VI Compact which I'm planning to mod with a CF setup with a little help from my friends I know this PC is famous for it's outstanding arcade ports, but in the west we don't hear much about exclusive games for this thing.
I know about Aquales and A. I have a lot of fun browsing through games and discovering gems, but I was wondering if you guys had anything to recommend as "must plays". I love Shmups, platformers, and English-Friendly games are best. If the game has porn in it, even better. Porno games crack me up. Anyway,I'm excited to learn more about this unexplored territory from experienced denizens, and any recommendations would be much appreciated! Re: Recommend me some x games? Quote from: craiganderson on October 14, , AM if u find any game u want and cant find them let me know i have been collecting them for my hyperspin setup just fyi I saw your thread.
I'm interested to learn more about that. Thanks for the offer! Does the hyperspin setup work on actual hardware? H68k MassiveMember Posts: Logged. Quote Does the hyperspin setup work on actual hardware? Sadly not.. Hyperspin as you know it on PC's would be near impossible to do running for real on any X68k hardware. A custom launcher that mimics Hyperspin could be coded to work on the X68k..
